MUSIC & COMPOSITION

Paul Csige learned to play the ukulele at an early age. By the time he was 12, Paul was playing the music of Mozart and Beethoven on his uke. His passion for classical music developed along side his fascination for computers and motion pictures. At the age of 13 he switched his instrument focus from ukulele to piano under the direction of Doug Johnson, a popular Big Island performer and music teacher.

Because he began his study of piano in his teenage years, Csige opted for a home school education that would allow him many hours of uninterrupted practice time each day, something he could not have accomplished in a traditional high school setting. At the age of 15 he began his formal study of classical music at the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Debrecen, Hungary under the tutelage of the academy’s director, Professor Mihaly Duffek. While in Hungary he was mentored by Emoke Ujj, an Eastern European piano virtuoso and graduate student at the academy, who has since earned her PHD in Music Studies at the University of North Texas.

Paul Csige entered the Berklee College of Music in 2001 with a performance scholarship. He graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2004. Paul Csige received a degree in Film Scoring and another in Music Synthesis. Between his time at Berklee and graduate school he worked as a sound editor and composer on a Fremantle show filmed in Dallas.

In 2007 Csige returned to Hawaii and was commissioned by the Kamuela Philharmonic to write orchestral music for the 60 member orchestra’s performances in 2008. Paul Csige received the Aloha Accolade Award from the Honolulu International Film Festival for the audio/visual compilation of the performance.
